The weekend's spotlight fell on the League Cup semi-final as New Quay turned in an excellent performance to deservedly beat St Dogmaels.
In a pulsating game there were early chances for both teams before New Quay broke the deadlock when Jamie Thompson put through Bryn Evans who coolly chipped opposing keeper Neil Evans. The Saints rallied well and got back on level terms when Ioan Owen headed home from a Simon Wilson corner. Further opportunities at either end ensued before the Seasiders regained the lead when following good work by Jason Thomas, Jonian Evans was on hand to net from close range. The goal increased the tempo even further but the issue was finally settled when Jamie Thompson having split the opposing defence set up David Evans to score their sides third goal and thus book their place in the Easter Monday final. In the League Aberaeron kept up the pressure on leaders St Dogmaels with a comfortable win over Aberporth with two goals from Iestyn Thomas and one each for Louis Hunt, James Hemming and Ellis Denyer. Maesglas had an equally comfortable win over Llanybydder with a goal apiece for Llifon Howells, Dominic Williams from the penalty spot, Rhys Pritchard and Phil Furney. Second Division bound Llandysul pulled off the shock win of the day as they beat Lampeter. Simon Davies turned in a superb performance with a hat-trick whilst Osian Williams replied for the visitors. Dewi Stars who are slowly inching away from the relegation grabbed an important point against Crannog. Dewi Sion Evans claimed both their goals with Jordan Jones and Leigh Davies netting in reply. In the other game played Cardigan grabbed maximum points against Ffostrasol thanks to a Scott Freeman effort ten minutes from the end. |
